Project Possibility

I'm a co-founder and trustee of Project Possibility, a charity that helps young people believe in themselves and each other through inspiring events involving science, technology, and the arts.

Project Possibility

Project Possibility is a registered charity (RCN 1205365) that I co-founded. Our mission is to help young people believe in themselves and each other. We organise inspiring events that promote a healthy belief in the impossible through science, technology, and the arts.

The idea behind Project Possibility is simple: if you give young people the chance to do something genuinely ambitious, something they weren’t sure was even possible, they come away with a lasting belief that the future is wide open to them. We don’t run workshops or lectures. We run projects where the kids are the crew, the builders, the scientists.

Classtronauts

Our flagship project so far has been Classtronauts. In 2024 we worked with Year 5 students at Priors Wood school to define a space mission with a message for the world. Their message.

Classtronauts 2024 - students at Mission Control

The children decided what they wanted to say to the world, and we helped them say it from the edge of space. We launched a high-altitude balloon carrying their message to 30km above the Earth, broadcast it from the top of the world, and the kids monitored the whole thing from their own Mission Control at school. The balloon, designated Teamwork-1, flew 100 miles from south of Sheffield to the Yorkshire coast over a 2.5-hour flight.

You can watch the full flight of Teamwork-1 on YouTube, including the broadcast of the children’s message at the very peak and the dramatic landing.

It’s hard to overstate the impact of watching a class of children realise that they just sent something to the edge of space. That’s the kind of experience we want to give to schools across the UK.

The Great Toy Race

In September 2024, we did something slightly ridiculous to put Project Possibility on the map. Literally. We drove a toy RC car 17.7 miles around the roads, paths, and redways of Milton Keynes to trace out two giant P’s (for Project Possibility) on the map.

The route had our little car traversing woodlands, crossing rivers, and navigating the streets of MK. We had no idea if this was even possible. Could a toy car’s plastic wheels survive 17.7 miles? Would the batteries hold out? It turned out the answer was yes, and we raised over £800 along the way.

We had no idea if it would work, but that’s rather the point.

What’s Next

We’re fundraising to deliver more events like Classtronauts to schools across the UK. Each event costs roughly £500 to deliver, covering a full, immersive day for a school. The projects we’re developing include:

  • Movie Time - students become the crew, using professional kit to write, shoot, and edit their own film in a week
  • Community Library - a hands-on building project that leaves a permanent legacy for a school
  • Forest planting - connecting young people with nature by creating a brand-new ecosystem from scratch
